Power in Small Places

Power in Small Places amplifies and elevates voices on the environmental issues that matter to the community by galvanizing and harnessing the power of civic engagement. EWI aims to reveal, expand, and facilitate avenues for community members to address persistent issues through the EcoWomanist lens.

This is the space for getting involved right now.

Power in Small Places

A Civic Engagement Program

Black women residing in the small, rural towns identified in the first phase of EWI’s multi-year project have the lived experience of the outcomes of divestment and economic woes.

"Everyone can do something."

Say 'Yes'

CASE IN POINT

What We're Doing

The power found in small spaces is the resounding impact of participants reaching others with a unified voice. Simply put, we're using our collective voice to be heard.

We actively engaged in encouraging 'Yes' on GA Constitution Amendment 2 during the 2022 Election Cycle. This important amendment would give tax relief to Georgians in the increasingly likely event a disaster damages or even destroys homes.

The citizens spoke. On November 8, 2022, this ballot measure passed with 53% of the vote. (Source: Ballotpedia

How We Unified

Our approach was straightforward. Those we engaged were asked to do three things:

Pledge

Fill out our form to commit to voting ‘Yes’ on Amendment 2.

Plan

Check your registration status and assigned polling place. Get a sample ballot.

Three Pillars Strong

We’ve designed culturally relevant programs around our foundational pillars: Leadership, SoulCare SelfCare, and Advocacy. Each program allows for and encourages education through spending time in nature, story sharing, and creating experiences that restore, renew, and reconnect us with our ancestry and spiritual wellbeing.

Find out more about the programs aligned with each Pillar and how to get involved.
